Creating CSV Audiences in Channel99
This article walks you through how to create and use CSV Audiences within the C99 platform. CSV Audiences allow you to upload or copy and paste a custom list of domains that can then be leveraged across Channel99 for targeting and reporting.
Accessing the Audience Section
All audiences used within the Channel99 platform can be found under the Audience tab in the main navigation menu.
Tip: If you’re looking for a broader overview of the Audience section, click the lightbulb icon next to the search bar. A quick overview training is available there that explains all audience types and how they interact with other areas of the C99 platform.
For this tutorial, we’ll focus specifically on CSV Audiences.
Creating a CSV Audience
To create a new CSV Audience:
- Navigate to the Audience tab.
- Click the Create Audience button.
- Select CSV / File from the audience type options.
This will open the New Audience page, where you can add your domains using one of the following methods:
Option 1: Copy and Paste Domains
- Click Copy and Paste.
- Paste your list of domains directly into the open field.
Option 2: Upload a File
- Click Browse Files, or
- Drag and drop a file into the gray upload area.
Supported file formats include CSV and XLS.
File Formatting Requirements
When uploading a file, it’s important that the domain column is labeled correctly.
- The top row (header) of the domain column must be titled "Domain" or "Website".
- If neither of these headers is present, the system will not be able to identify which column to read.
As long as one of these terms is used, your file will process correctly.
Naming and Saving Your Audience
Once your domains are uploaded or pasted:
- Enter an Audience Name (required).
- Add a Description (optional, but recommended for clarity).
When you’re ready, click Save in the upper-right corner of the page.
Audience Processing and Status
After saving, you’ll be redirected to the Audience Overview page.
- A confirmation message will appear at the top of the page.
- Your new audience name will appear in the list below.
- The audience status will initially display as Processing.
Processing typically takes 4–6 hours. During this time, the audience cannot yet be used in reporting or activation.
Note: Be sure to allow enough lead time before attempting to use a newly created CSV Audience.
Once processing is complete, your CSV Audience is ready to be used across the Channel99 platform.
You’re All Set
You’ve successfully created a CSV Audience in Channel99 and are ready to apply it to new projects.
Thanks for following along with this tutorial in the Channel99 Training Center. We’ll see you next time!
